It's A Knitting Kind of Morning

It's been a rough weekend. We delivered our German friend to the airport yesterday. The goodbyes were brutal and I spent most of the day crying. We returned home to an empty house and spent the rest of the day on the couch trying to recover emotionally and catching up on shows on the DVR.

I didn't sleep well last night. Strange dreams (the same one over and over again) soaked in sadness. Fortunately I didn't do any crying in my sleep and all the swelling around my eyes has dissipated.

My mood has improved drastically since I got up this morning. I also started, again. It's not time. I'm a week early, again. You may remember the whole gyno doctor saga from a couple of weeks ago. I'm not sure I ever followed up with the results from that appointment, but they called me and scared the shit out of me a few days after my appointment. Apparently, they couldn't read my pap because there was not enough tissue in the sample and, "Gee, there sure was a whole lot of blood."

I have an appointment for a do-over in the morning. I called her answering service earlier and if they pull the $25 fee for less than 24-hours notice thing on me again I'm going to ask to talk to the doctor. I am not wasting anymore of my time and going through the ordeal of stirrups again when they can't get a good sample.

Anyway, on to happier news. Miss J listed for us yesterday the new vocabulary words she has learned since she's been here. Disgusting, beautiful, handsome, conceited, couch potato, crush (as in have a crush on someone), and turnip greens (in English and German). There was also a lot of questions about specifics of words she knew, but didn't fully understand. By the end of her visit she and her German friends were speaking a blended language of English and German. We are so proud.

There will be another group of Germans this May. We haven't decided if we will host again. We'll decide closer to May when we've had time to forget how badly her leaving has hurt.

How did I get so attached in such a short period of time? I don't know, but we could not have custom ordered a better house guest. She is intelligent, interesting, interested, polite, and helpful. It was like having another member of the family in the house she integrated so well. Or maybe not family exactly. Perhaps it was because we had such a good time with no fighting or stress.

There was some frustration, of course, with the language difficulties, a stain on a brand new shirt, the near miss cooking disaster (see my last post) and Blaze pissing all over Miss A before we went to the airport yesterday, but overall we could not have asked for a better experience.

Looking forward, they canceled our caricature drawing class. I spent a bundle on supplies for it and now we're stuck as I can't return them. I was really looking forward to the class and I hope they will do it at a later date. Miss A sent a nasty missive to the college complaining. No response as of yet.

Miss A's mom is having some significant health issues. I'm not sure if I'm allowed to speak openly about it so I won't specify, but let's just say it's very serious and scary shit we're going to be dealing with for a while.

I guess that's about it. I've a lot to do today and I haven't even started yet. I should go get myself motivated.
